This is my latest idea called Transportashirt, it\'s supposed to look as if we are driven by someone within. There is going to be more to the shirt then just this, I just need help with this part for now. What I want to know is if the cabin needs more details and whether people like the two characters driving? Also any other feedback would be much appreciated!
Seen similar concepts before but don't let that put you off. I think @ the moment it looks like a mode of transport cockpit rather than a control room driving the wearing. Keep working @ it!
I think more detail is needed to make the illusion work. I think it's clever but I agree with spam69.
What about a series of 1-person control rooms on top of each other? Or what about something that shows that the control room goes in to the arms, or below?
I wonder if there's any way to make this clearer that the people are supposed to be driving the wearer? Because I find the concept really great, but I'm not sure I would have gotten it if you hadn't have mentioned it. Then again, maybe I'm just dense that way. But, maybe a chart hanging on the wall behind them with a map/blueprint of the brain/body? Or some control panel lights that are somehow labeled? Not too obvious, but just as a little detail that you take in when you look at the design a little longer?
Other than that, I love this idea and the execution so far. Colors are great, love the use of silhouettes. Has a neat, sort of "retro travel" feel to it as well (ooh, how about a fifties style sexy stewardess pouring the coffee? because everyone has a feminine side too...)
By the way, I think the "compressed" view is just a bug in the preview page - happens to me every time I submit a new version in critique. The image looks vertically squished, but the actual image on the critique page comes out normal...
mmm, i think youve got a problem since this has already been printed, and though the style is consistently different the concept is quite similar, maybe instead of that complete this adding shading, to make it seem like some vehicle/robot/machine is coming at you from the shirt
Thanks for all your feedback littleclyde, it's very helpful!
againstthebound: I'm aware of that submission, but as far as my design goes it will be executed much differently. I'll just say that there is more to this design, but that part is confidential as of now... I do appreciate you saying something though :)
I had some time to experiment with some details in the background of the cock pit. I think it helps give it some dimension? Your opinions are much appreciated!
I think this version looks fine. I knew immediately what it was without reading the description & don't feel it needs a "nose" (actually seems to me like adding that would make it look less like what it's supposed to be).
I like the lights on v1 too, but this one the cockpit looks great. I think the thing with the cap could be solved by the cap being shorter, or it sitting lower on his face. Other than that it's looking great.
I love the new details! Very nice, and most definitely gives it more of a cockpit feel. I love the retro, contemperary feel to it! I can't wait to see what else you have in store with this design.
This looks nice, the coffee pouring is pretty funny. The only thing I would suggest right now (and it's nitpicky) is that the two curved thick steel vertical bars going down the window on either side aren't exactly curved the same. They're pretty close but it's just a little off and I'm sure no one else will notice. Otherwise nice job, the nails going around the window are a nice touch, too! =)
Oh, I like the new additions! Especially the diagram and the heart rate monitor - it's cool that Mountain Gnome specifically wonders what the diagram is, because that shows that even if you don't get the concept right off, there are little touches to help take you there or at least make you wonder exactly what's going one here.
Very curious as to what the confidential part is... Reveal soon?
i really love your attention to detail, but i like the sticker placement on the back close-up, but on the overall view i don't like it by the passenger window. I also think if it's a "how's my driving" sticker it should be straight, but i do like the bumper sticker look of it being crooked .... and fix the lady in the backs head, but i don't think you meant to do that?
How about adding some rivets around the round windows like there are on the cockpit window.
I am a little unsure whether or not the bumper sticker needs to be there.
The only other criticism that I may have is that the passenger windows on top of each other may need to be spaced further apart. That is, the rows need to further away from each other, as the space between them is not to realistic to show different levels of the passenger compartments.
I agree with Mountain Gnome. The spacing between the passenger windows was the first thing (but the only thing) that bothered me. Great details! I like this version best and I'm curious to see what the submission will look like.
At first I didn't quite see the problem with the spacing of the passenger windows. But, after looking at it for a while...I now understand what the previous remarks are referring to. Ya, to make it more realistic the passengers would most definitely need to have more space between them and the row above/below them. Other than that, I love the concept and the overall look of this design! Great detail, a lot to look at, and I'm loving the bumper sticker. Adding a little humor as well!!
I like your idea, but I would place the side windows on the sleeves, one porthole per sleeve. Keep it simple, maybe expand the front and back designs so they look more like the focus and the sleeves will follow. Excellent idea.
whoa!! yeah, you were right, not close to control room now, everyone has made suggestionas already plus you say it's still rough so i'm just gonna keep my mouth shut and patiently wait for next version =)
I'm sorry about the poor resolution, does anyone know how to keep the file size down and keep good image quality. I'm making each page in photoshop as a .png. I then import those .png pages into flash where I export the entire document as a .swf at 60% quality and playing at 30fps. The 250kb limit is killing me, help is need!
The details in the windows are really excellent. If you made the background solid instead of shirt textured, .gifs would reduce the size much more than .pngs. Can Threadless print on the side? or will you sub it as a front/back image with the seam between the side window columns?
I love the details in the windows: the smiley face, the dinosaur toy, and is the captain drinking wine?? Very glad that you got rid of the headlights right away.
Looks like the front and back images are on a different scale than the side images. Are they? If so, I'd enlarge the front and back to match the sides.
DragonStar: Thanks for the help, I will try out the .gifs and see if I can get the file any smaller. Your question about printing on the sides, I plan to have the seams run inbetween the middle of the passengers. I really don't even know if they will be able to print this? I just assumed threadless could print it in four segments?
