this is so cool, it's so fun to just discover each individual moment in the cityscape. i'd love to see it with even MORE detail (on like the bubble boy or the lightbulb). maybe color? also, besides the fact that there are "hidden" scenes in this design, what's the hook? are all the hidden things like of one particular theme (for example the lightbulb leads me to believe that there could be an electricity theme!)?
also, if you have a second, could you check mine out and throw down a crit? I'd really appreciate it! |
i thought the theme was "animals taking over the world" which would explain the (probably held as a pet) human within the hamster-ball ;)
sausage_moe on Sep 22 '09
to be honest...there was no real theme. just the thought of one crazy future city inspired by my hometown. thinking bout giving it a certain direction, though.
i've been adding a few more details here and there, but i'm not done yet. and yes, i'll try some color... |

v. cool...i love tee's with so much detail you see something new everytime you wear it. I also love the mouse rollover tool...any chance of letting me know how you do this?
As for colours...maybe a light blue t with a navy blue line? Please critique mine if you have a moment http://www.threadless.com/critique/51821/Rocktopus |

ou my! great trippy one! just one question? will it be black over white t-shirt? i asume it could be printed in hundrets of 2 color variations. yellow over orange, light blue over dark, etc.. :) anyway just great one!
sausage_moe on Sep 22 '09
hey d-alien: first i thought b/w (rather than other 2-color-designs), but i will try it with up to 8 colors as well...then we can decide together, which one's better...
sausage_moe on Sep 23 '09
A3 sheet of paper. drew it just a little bigger than the print is going to be...i really wanna do the colors to, but have to finish the linework first. and the detail just keeps on coming... any ideas for the colors insiddius?
agree, can't wait to see it colored! and thx for your comment om mine, really appreciate your support :)
Sarjen on Sep 23 '09
Very nice design. I can't decide if I like it as is or if colour will do it some good. I think it's complex enough to not need any colour. If you do decide to colour it in I would only select a few colours and not over do it with a whole rainbow of them.

the picture actually gets less confusing with color, sarjen. already tried that a little. |

really an awesome work, i too go with a 2 color tee... 'cuz i think 8 colors are not enough to beautify such a detailed design...
as for the color i'd go with a blue or orange... |
this looks pretty damn awesome, I would like to see it on a tee as either a all over black and white print or maybe a gradient print, look forward to seeing what you do with this

Hey there...
added some more stuff. now on a tee, which unfortunately looks really crappy. i have to figure out a way i can stay under 250kb and still be able to do the zoom-thingy. but that's it for now, just to keep you updated. |
sausage_moe on Sep 25 '09
btw: the zoom equals approximately the size of the real print...

how did you make the zoom tool? that's sweet! |
Tatarczuk5 on Sep 25 '09
haha awesome, one of those shirts you could spend 20 minutes staring at. I dunno about color either, but it may be very cool with some splashes, just small things with some color. and idea i have thrown around alot in a design like this is putting color in like it was dripped there, kinda like a splash of color thats not dried, water color or something. Just a thought.
ps. magnifier is sick Check out mine |
sporky12 on Sep 25 '09
Cool drawing. My big issue with it is I'm not sure where the point of focus is supposed to be. Maybe when you add color, you can use that to help tell the story of what's important and what's not.

Wow-wee! so detailed. I love it!
I'd personally like to see some colour, even just to give elements highlights. Could you critique mine too, if you have time? It's called "Windows" and is for the Geeks design competition. Thanks! :) |
Tatarczuk5 on Sep 26 '09
Hmm, to be honest I don't know exaclty how to achieve the water color effect, I'm new to the printing process and don't know what is allowed. Maybe just go ahead and put in some paint thats dripped? But look around for a way to do watercolor, I know programs that could do it, just not what is printable.
Sorry I can't help there, thanks for the Crit though. |

Looks good, the plane helps to create really interesting composition.
The one thing I might say is that I see alotof shirts with really complex but cool imagery on threadless: you need more of a hook, something that makes it different than those others. |

What does ode mean? the form i know is short for Ordinary Differential Equations but I am assuming that this is not the case. I think that coloring more objects (like in prev version) will make this look better. I also like the bg color, it makes it easier on the eye. Nice work. Good luck.

ode 1. A lyric poem of some length, usually of a serious or meditative nature and having an elevated style and formal stanzaic structure. |

lizsmithson on Oct 31 '09
sausage....I have been checking back on this design...and I was completely and totally wrong. I love the way you used the colors and I think it's stronger that way. It pops certain elements out and kind of reminds me of childhood...when I used to check out those "I-Spy" kind of cartoons in cheapy doctors office magazines like Highlights....The splotches remind me of how crayon looks against the black and white and I fully love this design just the way it is. You'll have two votes from us if you push this into submission - just be sure to find some way to let me know when it does, eh?

as for color i think less solid color more watercolor application, which seems to be popular and also leaves the linework intact, salos like insiddius said hidden uv layer could look nice too! ;) comments paleeze! http://www.threadless.com/critique/55797/dark_sun_god |

can you all navigate the zoom-tool comfortably? or is the zoom too strong? how long does it take the zoom content to load? gimme some feedback please!
i like it! (you could color a bit more stuff i think)
zoom function works fine, no problem with loading times here. just make the text "mouseover for detail" a highres type, and you're fine :-) |
IdanRooze on Nov 11 '09
The flash works perfectly. It took me about ten seconds until the zoom tool was loaded.
Great design. :) |
sausage_moe on Nov 11 '09
thx guys....
@mtths: the text is gonna be replaced completely. i dunno if i should color more since the spots don't work as focus points any more if i do. it's kinda the biggest issue right now. @IdanRooze: ten seconds is a really long time. maybe i do decrease the picture size a little more. |
IdanRooze on Nov 11 '09
It could also be a bug. The whole flash was completely loaded but all I saw was white.

I'll tell you what. The two colors you've chosen create the feeling that the city's on fire. Try adding some light blue/green/both. Post it so we can actually see how it looks.
The flash is good, as earlier. I see you've added the 'Loading...' thingy, it's cool. I'll be following you! |

Mind giving mine a look? Coming down from Wonderland |

ooh looking good, how about adding a slight darker shade of grey, and shading some of the buildings to add more depth into the crazy illustration you got going already, I feel like it might fall a lil flat right now with just the linework

Freak on Nov 11 '09
I don't think the splashes of colour are helping the illustration. Have you tried a fully coloured version? I think the detail is awesome and it's a great illustration but the spots of colour are detracting and distracting from what would otherwise be a great tee.
sausage_moe on Nov 11 '09
honestly, i'm not familiar with "digital" colors. i started coloring the whole illo, but since i was lacking a concept and didn't have a clue how to make one up i kinda surrendered to the eight-color-limit...maybe i should try again...any tips, how to's or good tutorials you know about?

hey, thx for your comment on mine ;)
i really love the linework and think you should give the completely colored version another try. i'm not a fan of the splashes of color as they are at the moment... i don't know any good coloring tutorials but i think you shouldn't worry too much about evrything being the correct color and just use the colors to add depth and liveliness to the whole piece. this will definitely turn out awesoem, i believe in you and your skills! :) |

This is as awesome as it was when I first saw it (v3). That is, way awesome.
What I think is: you can either drop some major color bombs here and there (don't be shy), or offer it for collab to someone you think could do it as it should be done. Or just sub it, I'd still 5 it. |
