Another side off center design for no reason what so ever. Why do people do this. Yes its been done, and with the right design it might work, but don't just do it because its been done before do it for a reason.

I think it's ok where it is. The placement goes with the rough/spray style.

The you take a photo of that graffiti in Temple bar (Dublin) ?? or is that your's too ??

   liquidgraphix on Sep 18 '03
try submitting before you critique (not mentioning any names), and taking images from photos is a common practice, although not preferred, but in this case when you've bought the photo it's ok to do and i liked it for this trial run...so before you try to dis an attempt make sure you aren't shooting yourself in your foot

thanks for your comments anyhow

If its not yours its a rip off, big time, unless of course you did those stencils around Dublin

I'm here to buy t-shirts so I rate each image out of five and tell people what I think if I want to, so shut up about having to submit before being allowed to criticize and what are you one about - if you've bought a photo it's OK to do? You're weird.

Anyway I like it, 4 out of 5.

The off-centre works because it's some crazed man talking, put it in the middle and it would ruin it. It would suggest I was thinking it, or saying it.

But ignore that cos I've never done graphic design in my life.

hehehe, i think i hit a nerve here...

buying a photo does not mean you buy the right to exploit the image for your own purposes. shame its not your own work/idea as i really liked it. now i'll have to score low.

after deciphering what has been said, i've come to the conclusing that even regular people, meaning nondesigners, are good people too ... so i renege what i said about submitting before you critique, you made a good point ed de, don't think the part about me shutting up was cool, but hey, you're in the UK and i'm here, i suppose you can say whatever you want...

continue the discussion

I like it as well. The message is cool and the spray design is really choice.

But what sass said is right. Copyright law is very grey; often what applies in one situation doesn't in another, and often people are VERY misinformed. I was offered to be part of a panel formed by the Canadian Heritage Minister as a forum on copyright law earlier this year, and if anything, it outlined the gross lack of understanding most people have of their rights and the boundaries to the law...

In this instance... to whom do I give credit? Liquidgraphix, who took a photo and made a shirt design of it... or the anonymous artist in Dublin who thought of the idea, cut out a stencil and sprayed it around town?

Then again "Outbreak Girl" is blatant copyright infringement, and it got printed!

If it's graffiti, than it's very likely un-copyrighted, regardless of who took a picture of it when. The whole point of spray painting something on a wall is getting the general public to see it. While graffiti art has become more accepted recently, it's mostly the freehand one-off pieces. The very fact the original artist used a stencil means he / she intended this image to be mass-produced and exposed to the largest audience possible. Considering the sorry state of affairs the world and society in general is in today, I agree with the original artist's foreboding insomnia. Since your profiting from the sale of this tee will in no way harm any profit-making by the original artist, and will in effect further spread his / her work and message, I think he / she would be all for it. As an artist considering the guerilla spray-painting of my own similar messages I would be quite happy if said messages got taken up by any and all means. This shirt is superb and I think effectively captures the original artist's intent and message. As such it gets the coveted 5 / buy. If it manages not to get printed, I would greatly appreciate it if you could e-mail me with a copy of the original file so I can print a shirt / create a stencil of my own to spread the message stateside.

aaaahhhhh, slowly but surely the word gets spread around, it truely has begun...now YOU must tell others

are you guys starting to get it? (the whole reason for the shirt? check out this forum), I must admit it worked out better than i thought...thanks people
liquidgraphix
   liquidgraphix on Sep 19 '03
oh and the reason for the off center...when you spraypaint, you tend to try to get it done with the quickness, therefor, there is no time for details...this way it looks like a rush job and conveys the message as well

thanks ]-[x]-[, if it doesn't get printed (oh well, just another one) i'll definitely send you the illustrator file, and to whomever else wants it too, just let me know in this forum, i'll be checking

what happened to having fun, some people are just to serious nowadays about the wrong things

yeah, that's true; you can't claim copyright on something that was created illegally, but please do remember; there is no application required for copyright on intellectual property, it defaults to the creator.

and yeah, I agree that the original artist would most likely be thrilled that his art and message was spreading (look at Obey Giant), so it's really a moot point.

and liquid, I'd soooo be into getting the ai file to make my own stencil! but I still have hopes this gets printed!

I'm still confused. Did liquidgraphix take the picture (of the original grafitti) or purchase a stock image of it?...or maybe bought a photographer's art print from a gallery? And does this really make any difference? Just curious, since I'm one of those that doesn't fully grasp all the ins-and-outs of copyright law....

sheekawgo (hey i grew up near there! Aurora to be exact),

i bought a stock image of it...and no it doesn't make a difference, since the whole reason of illegally spraypainting anything is to get an idea out to the public, which is what i'm trying to do here...i thought it was a cool idea, so what the hell...oh and i'm giving out the illustrator file i made of it, so if anyone wants it let me know
