it would be cool if the lines pointed to parts of his face that somehow related to the kit, which maybe suggests that a good detective is naturally good at all of these, without the equipment. It would also make sense of the lines. Eg the camera line indicating his eyes, the disguise line his moustache or maybe hat. That kind of thing.

I love this, especially the smoke! definitely on natural. As for lens/lense, I think most people would actually call it a "magnifying glass."
