Perhaps if the skulls were more carefully rendered... or bird skulls? Or instead of a tree a stream of purposeful maggots/earthworms? I like it .. . I like that it sets off ideas

Nice idea but I agree... lose the skulls. They detract from it somehow and make it look too cartoony.

the very plain, outline-less look of the branches and skulls does not really match the bird. i'd say give the top half a bunch more detail, like the bottom half.

I like the illustration a lot although I think the light blue parts of the tree don't contrast enough with the light gray shirt. Otherwise I think it's way sweet.

I like how LIFE sprouts from DEATH. But I am very biased on this one, considering my infatuation with flying objects. I'm giving it a 5. What I'm kind of seeing from it, is not a tree, but veins and arteries reaching for the sky, you know? As if the bird has lost flight because of it's death, but it's heart has sprouted new hope for flight. I don't know what to say about the skulls, unless that could be a message saying, "Give up bird, it's over....."

If the piece is titled "Life of Death" should the tree itself NOT appear to be dead as well . . . or would that make it more 'Life From Death' . . . i guess what i am questioning is, should there be leaves/growth/signs of life flowing from the tree rather than skulls? I am not sure if i am 100% clear on the intended meaning . . . but reguardless, i would suggest having the tree exiting the the body through the beak . . . like the bird's soul (if it has one) is escaping the body, creating a new cycle of being, rather than growing out of the body itself like decaying organic matter . . . to me it would seem more symbolic. But reguardless of however much I may (or may not) be misinterpretting your meaning, the design is very compelling and thought provoking . . . i dig it! and the style of illustration on the bird is great but i think the style needs be carried out in the tree as well . . . but i do like the way you have the blue and black branches intertwining . . . Maybe a slightly different direction you could take the shirt would be playing up the duality of existence life vs. death making the blue represent life/growth and the black representing death and have leaves growing from the blue branch and leave the black completely barren . . . just a thought??? I would also suggest if you are going to have the tree growing out of the body having the bird laying on its back . . . but it is you design and i think it is pretty dope!

This is such a rip-off of a shirt by Atticus. Their whole theme, really. Sorry to say this is not very original (but it's still pretty kick ass. I like the skulls.)
