i'm a little confused by the sentence
burlesque
burlesque on Mar 21 '06
I like it, but I have no idea what it means.
GuyNormanBee
GuyNormanBee on Mar 21 '06
i presume this is in reference to mred catching a bunch of hell regarding the overuse of "cliche drips" - mildly comical as an inside joke - not likely for a printable submission though.
mred
mred on Mar 21 '06
yes man, it's a homage for the people to says me all the time: "dont drips"
spencekarl
spencekarl on Mar 21 '06
shouldn't it say "don't drip" then?

   mikemills on Mar 21 '06
I like that the sentence is awkward - funnier that way.

melhel86 on Mar 21 '06
no he can't, no one can understand your english. Nice inside joke, made me smile, not for printing though. I do like the style, but for future reference if you are going to use type, make sure it is grammatically correct. (Ask someone besides a free translator)

This is my favourite of your submissions mred, and I would wear it with pride. I find it difficult to understand why people around here are so intolerant of a) shirts in languages other than English and b) those people who don't have perfect written English. Get over yourselves, folks. Just because English is the global sweetheart at this stage of history doesn't mean that you're superior to everyone else if you happen to speak and write it flawlessly. A grammatical mistake may imply carelessness on the part of its maker, but to assume his or her stupidity is dangerous. In my mind I can hear Gollum saying "don't drips, says the people" and my chest will be saying it too if this gets printed.

Just kidding, I like it. I had to laugh when I saw it, mred has some big hairy cajones and he's not afraid of anyone!

I know this is an inside joke and all but this is my favorite design of yours. I love the walking fish and the tophat and the rain coming from the umbrella. Also I know the awkward english wasn't intentional either since you're foreign, but it's awesome and would make people say wtf?

$5 for this one, a score I don't think I would ever give you mred (no offense). I'd love to wear it to see the reactions I would get when wearing this. Although it'll never get printed. And that saddens me.

T-shirts with text on them should be in proper English- or, if you prefer, in proper some other language. The broken English appearing on this shirt reflects poorly on you, mred, as well as anyone wearing the shirt. The impression it gives is that neither you nor your customer is educated. And as the primary function of a t-shirt is to make its wearer appear smart, funny, and trendy, your design simply fails. I'm giving it the zero it deserves.

I don't know why you get so much crap from everyone. I think your work is ace and I would definitely buy this: $5.

sammy salami on Mar 22 '06
before everyone had explained the inside joke, i merely saw the text as a surreal, somewhat poetic compliment to the surreal image it accompanies. there's no such thing as a grammatical "rule" - grammar is merely a reflection of general usage. like any art, bending the "rules" is often what makes something creative. that said, i like the shirt quite a bit, and would definitely by it (although i don't like white t-shirts much). nicely done.

adamMis... "you horrible english has carried over onto your work and i dont like it at all... i feel like if i wore this i would get beat up.." wouldn't it be "YOUR"? If you're going to criticize someone's English, you should first check out your own.

Anyways, I like it, but yeah, might like it better with none-existant/different text. Anyways, nice work, it's amusing.

Before I noticed it was mred's and thought it was incorrect on purpose, I actually thought it was funny, and that the phrasing was funny too. In that it is so obviously incorrect.

But now that I know that it was not on purpose, it loses it's touch for me.

Eh.

Don't change the wording - it's funny however unintentional. Good work.

I agree for the most part with penguin, letum, and salami, too.

rudra
rudra on Mar 25 '06
i totally agree with salami: i didn't see it as acomment on your previous use of drips, and i thought the text really works with the image

the fish is weird and oddly appealing - and i think the text AS IS really compliments it - i think this is your best submission yet.
villainess
villainess on Mar 26 '06
Why are people fussing over proper English when there's a freakin' fish with legs, wearing a hat!? The fish is talking, people! Fish talk funny. It's understandable, though.

I like it! See, people use umbrellas to avoid getting wet, but fish prefer the water. So this silly fishy has an umbrella that produces rain. GET IT!?

It's a upside-down universe. Don't sweat the reality. It's cute. I like the concept. The text gives it character. It's amusing. Even if it's unintentional. It works.

I wouldn't like it any other way. "Proper", in this particular case, would be boring.

don't like the in-jokes (didn't even get it until i read the blog - too much negativity)..

but really like the graphic without the text!
aliwood
aliwood on Mar 27 '06
yeah i really enjoy this shirt too, it's very cool. shirts don't have to be for everyone, i don't think -- i mean, it's all personal preference.

and personally... :)

i think the very fact that the text causes some puzzlement, causes people to look again, is an asset. sometimes you have to look for subtext. sometimes too it is helpful to see the world (fish or weather or even -- dare i say it -- grammar) in a new way.

nice work mred.

i agree completely with caffeinebump; it looks like some asian shirt with messed up english that still sounds cool/funny/cute when it's read, no matter how grammatically correct it is. and that's interesting for me cause i am such a grammar hawk (not on capitalization, though).
